Question

Unable to mount a new disk in the local files area for immediate access and editing

I just opened a cd card from my camera but Adobe Lightroom thinks it is from paraguay or some other strange place and refuses to open it in the local files with the rest of my devices but puts above the list of local drives and insists that it needs to be imported!  Why is adobe doing this; why is this card different from my other devices.  Does anyone have a clue?  I can see the way around it but why is it even happening?

Because that's the way it's currently designed to work when you try to look at images on a memory card. They first have to be copied (imported) to a local hard drive. That's always been Adobe's philosophy regarding camera memory cards, going back to the very first version of Lightroom (now called Lightroom Classic).

There may well be an existing feature request (called "Ideas") on these forums to allow direct access to the memory cards for editing which you could search for and add your vote.

Thanks for your response.

I found that moving the same card to a different external reader resolved the problem.  Additionally the card/reader combination shows up and is fully accessible by the mac even when adobe doesn't recognize it in some way necessitating the moving of the card to a different reader or alternatively copying the images to a different drive.  While the issue did turn out to have a simple resolution it still resulted in user frustration and a certain amount of dismay,

I think Adobe needs to look at their mac interface since it's the only program on which I've seen this behavior.  In fact the card/reader show up just fine in the Mac device list.  Only Adobe has a problem with it in my environment.   In any case I have solutions so while the adobe end of the problem remains unresolved and unexplained I can move on.
