Question

unable to move some photos

Recently, the external hard drive i use for local storage died. I have since gotten a new drive and set it as the destination. However, when I try to move my photos to the new drive, I get "unable to move some photos" window. (Pictured below)I feel that I've run into a brick wall as to how to resolve this, especially, as the old drive is dead. I'm tempted to press tge "forget volume" option, but don't want to lose anything.  Any suggestions? Also, i'm using a macbook pro. Thanks!

Was "Photos 2" your old now broken drive? are those 6300 photos saved someplace else you can connect to?

Yes, "Photos 2" was the old drive. Unfortunately, they were not saved somewhere else.

Regarding the 6300 photos that are not connected on that drive- you will not be able to access, move them etc. until you recover that drive. Until that happens those photos should be considered "lost". There are many services who can help recover data from borken drives so there is hope. The message you are seeing will not go away until you either are able to repoint lightroom to a new location where the files are recovered to, or you select the drive to be forgotten in lightroom. If you are worried about losing changes you made in your catalogue, you can make a copy of it first and archive it until you are able to recover your files.
