Unable to save PSD between Lightroom and Photoshop 2020

Question

I did not face this before.
 
As usual, I always make some re-touching in LR first and go to PS to further re-touching. But recenlty I found out the if the re-touching in PS is involving many layers, the photo cannot be saved back to LR. PS will show the following,
 
    "Could not save as "file name.psd" because the document exceeds the 2 gigabyte limit for file dats.

Also my computer instantly slow down a lot. I have re-installed both the LR and PS 2020, it did not help anything and the captioned error happened again.
 
The funny think is if the re-touching in PS is not much and the photo can save back to LR for my further re-touching again.
 
This was not happened before in older version of LR and PS. Please help me to figure it.

Hi there,

We are sorry about the issue you are facing with Lightroom and Photoshop.

When you add multiple layers to a document while editing in Photoshop, it increases the size of the file. The maximum size allowed for a PSD file is 2GB. If the file file exceeds that, you would not be able to save it as a PSD. You can save the file as a PSB, which is designed for files larger than 2GB but this format can not be imported into Lightroom.

You can save the files back to Lightroom as Tiff. You would be able to save the files and continue editing the files in Lightroom as well. If you are using Lightroom Classic, you can go to the Preferences for Lightroom Classic, then External Editor and ensure that the option for Tiff is selected in the drop down for File format.
