Unspecified Performance Issues

Lightroom works very poorly on my desktop computer for some reason. It's extremely slow and lagging all the time, even though my computer supposedly meets the recommended system requirements.

My system information:

Alienware Area 51 R2 (2016 model)

Operating System: Windows 10 (64-bit)

Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-6800K CPU @ 3.40GHz (12 CPUs), ~3.4GHz
RAM: 32768MB RAM, 2666MHz
GPU: Geforce GTX 1080 8GB, Nvidia Studio Driver

Storage: Samsung SSD 870 EVO 1TB - Free 312.7 GB, 139GB overprovisioned, total 809.6 GB,
Display: 3440 x 1440 (32 bit) (165Hz)

Shouldn't this setup be more than enough to run Lightroom without any input lag or slow loading times? Is my graphics card simply too old and outdated?

I've tried setting my system resolution to 1920 x 1080p, but it makes no difference whatsoever, and everything else runs without a hitch in 3440 x 1440. I've even tried setting the monitors refresh rate to 60Hz, but it made no difference.

Anyone got any clue to where the issue might be stemming from?

Note: The issues are not triggered solely by using AI processeses. They are consistent and on going from the second I run the program. I can't even switch between the Crop and Edit tabs without any lag. Another note is that lately I've started having performance issues in Lightroom on my iPhone 16 Pro as well. It used to run smoothly before Adobe released the last update.

Hey, @Bokeh Garni. Welcome to the Lightroom Community. I'll need more information to help you figure this out. Please share the system information from Lightroom from Help > System info > Copy and paste into a text document > Upload and attach here.

Have you recently updated the OS? If you're on Lightroom Classic - is Sync enabled?

As primary steps, try this:

  • Unplug additional displays & use only one by default.
  • Monitor the Task manager for any unexpected read-and-write operations.
  • Go to Edit > Preferences > Performance > Use Graphics Processor > Set it off if it is on Custom or Auto. If this shows any differences, please check this article to troubleshoot further: https://adobe.ly/3uYiJo4.
  • Check this detailed response from our Expert about Lightroom Classic: https://adobe.ly/4g6Cb4j

Let me know how it goes. Thanks!

It became much better after turning off GPU acceleration! Thank you so much for your help! 🙂
