Upload speed

OS: IOS (up to date as of this posting)

iPhone: 15 Pro Max

Lightroom Version: 8.5.1 BAA93F/108

Issue: Upload speed

With the recent release of iPhone 15 and a USB-C port I plugged my camera into my phone five days ago and downloaded about 200 images from my camera to my phone so I could share some of them directly from my phone.  Works a treat.  Very easy.  Love it.

However.  The 200 images have taken five days so far to upload to the Adobe Cloud so I can access them from my desktop.  78 remain pending.  Five days.  What is going on.

I don't allow Lightroom to use mobile data so when I am out of the house (let's say 8 hours a day) then I don't expect this to work.  When at home I expect this to clear data at about the same speed as Lightroom on my desktop (and that can be far from ideal).  There is no issue with my home network or my ISP.  Uploads speeds via fast.com are about 50mb/s and downlaod speeds are well over 500mb/s.

I have noticed this before from my iPad when travelling and getting home and finding it takes days if not weeks to clear my iPad.  Normally I just offload the photos to my computer from my camera again and Lightroom sorts out dupicates reasonably well.  However, that will not work this time as I cleared my memory card and with how easy it was to transfer data between phone and camera, I would like that to be a major part of my workflow.  This upload speed is totally impossible.

I belive this is a design decision Adobe has taken for some reason.  Save bandwidth costs or something?

No other phone application has a problem with data from my phone.

This needs to be fixed.

I am really annyoned about this one, I guess I've been annyoed about the same issue on my iPad for years, but always just worked around it.

Come on Adobe.  This has got to be better.

Hello @jimchurches

As the other user said, you must keep the app open long enough for sync to complete.  If your device is plugged into power, then Lightroom will be able to prevent the device from sleeping.

Still other apps have no problems downloading stuff in the background with the screen off.

Android has the same issue it basically only uploads/downloads with the app open and the devices screen on (yes all the background activity permission are allowed and there is no battery saving app killing it).

Usually I run a small video that is just black in a pop-up window to keep the device active, I rendered for this purpose.

Downloading thousands of smart previews with "store locally" is equally painful. It's a job of several days setting LR up on a new device.
