Waiting for Settings

My Lightroom on my iMac (fully updated) is giving me this message for several, but not all, photos and reverts these photos back to their original (on Lightroom).  On my iPhone and on the web version I get that message but the edits have survived.  However, I am unable to edit these further on the iMac without resetting to original.  I did this several times and re-edited them and get the same message and seem to lose the edits (on Lightroom).

In LRC on the same iMac, photos have the correct edits, like web and iPhone, but, when in grid view, the sync status in the upper right of the photo box says "Syncing Metadata with Lightroom".  In LRC it appears that I have access to editing without resetting photos to original.

There seems to be a closed thread for this issue from 2023 which says that the issue was dealt with via Lightroom updates, but its now Jan 2024 and this issue is still present.

All images and metadata are synced with the cloud according to Lrc and Lr, so what's going on here?
