Question

Where did my edited photos go? **Trouble with Lightroom and Photoshop workflow**

(Been out of Adobe practice for a while, so am very rusty.)

I am attempting to go back and forth between Lighroom and Photoshop, but after I save the photos, they go missing. In other words, I am unable to retrieve/access the edited PS photos in Lightroom.

I have watched several tutorials to mitigate the issue, but I am finding that my system looks entirely different than everyone elses. For example, the menu options are pretty scarce on my end, and I can't find the appropriate tools.

I have been away from Adobe for a while and the technology keeps changing, so this is a frustrating situation to be in.

I have an Adobe CC subscription. I am using Lightroom 5.5 and Photoshop 23.3.1. (I'm using Lighroom 5.5. because my computer is a bit older and couldn't handle the latest version of Lightroom).

Much appreciation to anyone who can walk me through this!

Sounds like you are watching tutorials for Lightroom Classic and you are using Lightroom. They are different applications. If you have been away from Lightroom for a long while but previously used it, you want Lightroom Classic not Lightroom.

Hi, thanks for your response. Please see my reply above. Does it make sense that I wouldn't be able to access Lightroom Classic because my computer is older?

By the way, sorry for the different usernames. I am using my work account to respond. Thanks!

Hi & welcome to the Lightroom Community. I'd love to help you figure this out.

By the description & the above-shared details, I think you might've used a different version of Lightroom, now known as Lightroom Classic. Check this feature-by-feature comparison between Lightroom & Lightroom Classic: https://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom-classic/kb/lightroom-feature-comparison.html

You can get started with Lightroom Classic from here: https://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom-classic/get-started.html

I've checked your subscription too, Lightroom Classic is included so you can get started right away.

Let me know how it goes,
Thanks!

Thanks for following up! I believe I am using Lightroom, not Lightroom Classic. (And I had ALWAYS used Lightroom Classic before now).

For some reason, when I attempted to open Lightroom Classic this time, my computer told me I didn't have the latest software to access it? I contacted Adobe and they told me to use this current version. And because I am using Lightroom (and not Lightroom Classic) it seems that I am not able to edit photos in Photoshop and have them save back in Lightroom. It is bizarre.

You should be able to edit photos in Photoshop and save them back to Lightroom. However, most of the tutorials you find online demonstrate how to do this with Lightroom Classic. It works in Lightroom, too but is clunkier because it requires saving the Photoshop file to the Lightroom cloud, not your computer.

If you have always used Classic, I recommend you stick with Classic.

Your computer might be too old for Classic. I can't say for sure. Read this to find out.

It's likely your computer is fine. If you updated (or installed the current) Lightroom Classic from the Creative Cloud desktop application, then the computer is fine, and the catalog needs updating. When you try to open your old catalog, it will prompt you to update it. This creates a new, updated catalog that runs with the updated application.
