Why are the colours in the LR preview so different from the final version?

After numerous LR upgrades, there is a discrepancy between the aspect of a photo (particularly its white balance) in the grid version and the single photo version.
The grid probably serves as a "preview."
This is quite inconvenient.
Is it feasible to make the two versions seem the same?
