why is the (erase tool) leaving dark blocks in replacement of a sunset or anywhere i remove something?

Erase tool has stopped working properly. it now leaves a dark box in place of whatever you are trying to erase.

The tool has honestly never been great to begin with, Even the free erase tool on i-phones does a better job, why do i subscribe to a product with inferior capabilities thats also bugged?

i was trying to remove a bird from the background. flying thru the sunset of a wedding portrait.

it also did this randomly when i was removing lint from a jacket.

i have updated the program and restarted the computer, still getting the same results.

You need to update your AI settings. Click on the yellow wheel icon. When you erase something in the sky, and you use a sky mask to darken or brighten the sky, then that mask will have a gap where the object that you just erased used to be. And so the object will remain as a ‘ghost’, because the sky in that spot is not darkened/brightened. Updating the mask solves that.
