Why is this happening

Thanks for posting this again and for the screenshot. I understand why this would be unsettling.

Here’s what’s most likely happening:
 • This looks like mask retention from a different photo that was previously processed on the device
 • It’s not importing a real image, but a cached AI mask preview that’s being incorrectly reused

To help narrow it down, could you please confirm:
 • Does this happen with this specific image only, or every image you try to mask?
 • Have you ever edited a photo of a person playing guitar on this device in the past, even a long time ago, or briefly?

Please try these steps:
 • Delete this photo from Lightroom Mobile
 • Also delete it from the album and device folder, not just remove it from view
 • Rename the original file on your device (for example, add _v2 to the filename)
 • Re-import the renamed file into Lightroom and try masking again

Also, please share:
 • Your iOS version
 • Your Lightroom Mobile version

Once we have that, we can escalate to the mobile product team.
