why why Everytime I log into LR to load some new photos. LR doesn't show "add Photos", the Add Photos isn't highlighted

I load up LR on my laptop to add the photos from my SD card,  the  area on LR  “Add Photos”   is not lit up. (not activeaed)   this happens every single time I load LR   why are some options are working some times and not other times. I dont get it . !!    I pay my account every month, I’m just not getting the benefit of this LR program. I waste so much time writing to Help ask a question.   please let me know via my email.
