Question

(Win10) Lightroom v5.5 freezes when opening & zooming in on a photo

When I open a photo on Lightroom, the app freezes for multiple seconds before I am able to do anything.

I have attached a video showing the issue. This doesn't repeat every time, but most of the times.

I believe this appeared with an update. The issue has been there for around a month or so. I did not have this issue before, and opening photos was quick.

I have tried clearing cache. There is no abnormal activity in the Task Manager, and there is no high CPU/GPU/Disk usage while I open the photo.

Lightroom version: 5.5

Platform: Windows 10

I can confirm that this has something to do with the preset list on my Adobe account.

I installed Lightroom on a different computer with Windows 11, and the same issue persists. As I open the Presets panel the app freezes, and it freezes with every next photo I open until I close and reopen it and don't touch the presets panel.

Is it possible for someone to debug this issue with my account data / my exact preset list? Could it be one specific preset causing this issue, or could it be the number of presets I have saved?

Hi,

I have set the use GPU setting to off (and restarted Lightroom), but the problem still persists.

It could have something to do with my list of presets (maybe the specific ones I have saved on my account?). I opened up Lightroom and was not able to repeat this until I clicked on "Presets", which froze Lightroom for a couple of seconds till the list loaded (all collapsed). And after that - every next photo I open (with the presets panel closed) - froze Lightroom.

Hi there,

Welcome to the Lightroom Community. Thanks for sharing the details & the video; it helps.

I am unable to reproduce this issue on my test device. Please try these steps.

  • Go to Edit > Preferences > Performance > Set 'Use Graphics Processor' to Off from Custom or Auto.

  • Restart Lightroom & test the workflow for improvement.

If this helps, please update the GPU drivers of your computer through the respective manufacturer's dedicated driver management software. Check step 4 in this article: https://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom-classic/kb/troubleshoot-gpu.html

Let me know how it goes from here,

Thanks!
