Worthless Search faclity in Lightroom

On trying to open a RAW file in Lightroom, it won't let you as it tells you that it has already been opened and shows you the image lowlit, on the left of the screen. When you hit Cancel, nothing happens. When you then enter the filename you get "OH No! A Black hole, although it's just showed you the picture.

This has been designed and then programmed by incompetent amateurs. Lightroom is staggeringly user-unfriendly. Can anyone recommend Topaz, Luminar of one of the competitors?
