XMP files

Hey everyone. I just got Lightroom, and I had a question. I want my pictures to autosave to my folders as a JPEG image, but they keep saving as an XMP file. This is really confusing, and I don't know how to change it. Any help would be great.

Your picture is not saved as XMP. XMP files are files that contain the edits. Lightroom writes these files next to the original raw file if you use local mode. Lightroom does not have an autosave to jpeg option. It is a non-destructive editor, that does not change the original image but saves the edits as a kind of 'to do list'. That is what those XMP files are. If you want to have a jpeg copy with edits applied to the pixels, then you must use 'Export'.
