After editing an image in Lightroom, is the XMP metadata showing the post processing edits made automatically input and is it included when exporting? Thank you.

It depends!

If you Export as JPG or TIF,  then your edits are 'baked into' the new file that is created by the export. (No XMP data).

If you Export as Original (NEF, CR3, etc) or DNG, then you get either the [proprietary raw file + a sidecar XMP of the edits] , or the export is as DNG with the edits embedded within the [single DNG file]. (XMP edits only readable in other Adobe editing apps)

@Rob_Cullen

Where does the metadata go when you export as JPG or TIF? For instance, if I created custom metadata fields for each image in Lightroom and then exported all the photos as JPG or TIF, will that metadata be viewable regardless of what software/application I open the photo in? (Sorry, non-tech person here)

Embedded within the JPG or TIF file. And also DNG files.

No. TBMK (Also, a non-tech person ). 'Universal' (if that is the word) metadata like 'Keywords' will be viewable by other Apps, but metadata that is specific to Adobe apps (like editing data in Lightroom) will not be visible, except in other Adobe editing apps.

Hope that makes sense!.
