cannot change color shapes using eyedropper tool

when you double-click on the thumbnail of a shape to change color, if you use eyedropper to sample a color from the artwork, program error pops up.

I can't help but think this was the result of "fixing" the previous bug where holding alt/option to change an anchor handle while using pen tool, instead of letting you adjust the handle, the eyedropper shows up instead. and now this issue got fixed but somehow a new bug shows up, also related to eyedropper tool....
