Generative fill quits before finishing, no error, no info

Attempting to remove items from an image and generative fill starts but does not finish. Does not provide any information about it.

I am marquee-ing an area that I just want to remove, a mole on a face and a string on a hoodie, no text prompt, just removing them, runs through the process then poof modal disappears and nothing has changed. It was working previously, I was using it last week and the week prior without issue.

I just checked for an update and my app is up to date - 24.7.0

@phoenixmaximus sound like you have other issues going on. Perhaps try a reset of your preferences is in order. Go to Preferences/General and click the reset upon quit button and relaunch PS.

I have this exact same problem and it will come and go.  I had the problem with the beta and now the current version of Photoshop.  I was here trying to find a solution as it was happening again.  The generation starts, it gets nearly to the end and then nothing.  No fill and no error.  Reseting preferences sounds like a "grasping for straws" solution that is not ideal as I like my preferences.

I started trying various things and what I noticed is I was zoomed in tonight when I was having this most recent bout of the issue.  I figured let me zoom out and see if that does anything.  Low and behold generative fill started working.  Zoomed back in and it stayed working.

Tomorow I will load another inage and start zoomed like I did tonight to see if can repeat the problem and fix,

I still also have this problem every once in a while and nothing seems to
fix it other than leaving it alone for a while. The other day I had it let
me use generative fill on some water in the photo but not on the person in
the photo. It eventually worked and I wonder now if it was zooming out like
you said that fixed it. I’ll keep that in mind next time it happens!

Hi, I have this exact problem.

Generative fill worked for me in beta, but now in the latest version of Photoshop it's not working anymore. Photoshop always crashes with no error/report at around 90% of the progress bar. Does not matter what image I use as base, what I write, or if i leave it blank.

Example Video attached. Before recording the clip I reset my preferences and relaunched PS.

i too am getting this error today. no results, no info, and no results. process bar completes then...nothing.
this image is an original file submitted by a client, confirmed.
creative cloud says my photoshop install is up to date as of today, oct. 25, 2023.
cannot obtain version number because when selecting help>about photoshop... it seems as tho info window either doesn't open or is hidden/invisible.
using windows 10 (up to date as of the date of this post) on a desktop PC

I had the same problem in Beta, so updated to the most recent 25.0.0 release and it has the same issue.

Previously this was an occasional issue in Beta particularly with small area selections. Now I can't get it to work at all. Looks like it's running, then just stops with no result and no error.

Can't use Generative fill at all 😞

Have updated OS, restarted Beta and new PS, and restarted computer. No change.

Similar problem. It no longer works. I tried every workaround I could find.

@duyl14315269 What version of the beta are you on? This post is from quite a while and several versions ago.

Same issue here.  Whether I use text or not, the loading bar gets to the end and nothing happens.  No error.  Nothing at all to denote something went wrong.

I am also seeing that an EXCESSIVE amount of works appear to be blocked, as evidenced by the generation quitting within seconds.  Even completely non-offensive words.  I can't have it create breastplate armor because "breast"... cmon guys.  I know you're smarter than that.

Yes, technically 3 if you count my MacBook Pro monitor. I was doing this directly on my MacBook monitor, not one of the externals.

Curious @NoParadox do you rock dual monitors?

In your inbox now Cory. I zipped up the PSD and went ahead and included the original PNG file as well just so you have it, I don't see any metadata in bridge but I don't know enough to know enough so better to include than not I think 🙂

Also, I did mentioned this earlier but I'll restate it here so it's fresh, I can do a no text GF in other images, this one for whatever reason will not allow it. I even did it in another image after experiencing the issue with this one yesterday. Maybe it's all the green and it just doesn't know what to do with it? Anyway, I am here if you have any more questions!

Have a magnificent day!
