Lightroom Classic>Edit in PS: Long Delay+Erroneous Error Message opening Ps Beta 2024 25.0

I just recently updated Photoshop Beta to 2024 v25.0 on my Windows 11 machine.

Now when I try to open photos from LR 12.4 using the "edit in...", it hangs up for a time and then comes up saying "The file could not be edited because Adobe Photoshop 2024 could not be launched."

When I hit "Ok" it then opens the file in Photoshop 2024.

This happens with every file, even if Photoshop 2024 is already up and running at the time.

This does not happen with 2023 v24.7.

Hi - I am running Lightroom Classic12.4 in Windows 10. My workflow is to develop in Lightroom Classic, then export files into Photoshop, typically as Smart Objects.

My initial problem came after installing Photoshop Beta, as this workflow stopped working. Under <Preferences> in Lightroom, the <Edit in Photoshop> had defaulted to "Photoshop 2024", which I assume is Photoshop Beta, but although this app booted up, it did not import the file to create the Smart Object.

My next step was to uninstall Photoshop Beta, first in Windows and then in Creative Cloud - for good measure.

Problem now is that under <Preferences> in Lightroom, the <Edit in Photoshop> has blanked out [SEE SNAPSHOT], instead of returning to Photoshop 2023 24.7, which is what is installed. My temporary workaround was to set Photoshop.exe for Photoshop 2023 as the <Additional External Editor> in  <Preferences>, to at least show that the interface at least still worked, although I have since reset this to <not specified>.

To try to fix this, I have un- and reinstalled Lightroom Classic12.4, selecting <Keep> for settings. Unsurprisingly perhaps, the <Edit in Photoshop> is still blanked out.

Before I un- and reinstall Lightroom Classic12.4 with the setting to <Remove> notifications, alerts, interface settings, plugins, and other preferences, I have three questions [1] is this the correct approach to fix this bug or are there any alternatives or other steps needed? [2] Are there any watchouts with removing notifications, alerts, interface settings, plugins, and other preferences in the unistall process? [3] I have not reinstalled Photoshop 2023 24.7, as I assume that this is a Lightroom Classic problem?

Any advice highly appreciated! I am nervous about the uninstall with removed preferences - and digging myself into a deeper hole and still not fixing the bug created by Beta.

Thanks - Ian

hello,

since i've intalled latest version of PS Beta and PS 24.7, when i want to "modify" an image (mostly raw files) from LRC ( 12.4)

it's very slow to process, and i get 2 error message, before the image pop-up in PS (see attached image), i didn't have this problem before ,

is there a way to fix that?

thanks.

I guess this is why it is still Beta. I have removed it and gone back to version 24.7 which now seems to address the problem. Hopefully a proper fix will be found soon

Edit in PS from LrC is not working. Worked fine in the past. Running all current versions: LrC 12.4; PS 24.7.0 and MAC OS 13.5. LrC opens PS, but no image file...

I had the same issue, but additionally, cannot right-click on a desktop file and open with Photoshop.  It just loops around prompting for an application to open with.  All other application choices work, and removing the beta of Photoshop and installing the production version returns expected functionality.  I *love* the stuff in the beta and can't wait for the bugs to be worked out.

Bonsoir,
je vois votre message et j'avais exactement le même problème
j'ai lu un post qui disait qu'il fallait revenir à la version précédente de
PS Beta
depuis ça fonctionne bien

Go to Edit/Preferences in Bridge, and select File Type Associations. From there you can select the version of PS you want to use for each file type.
