3 Designs - how would you rate them

Hi crowd,
here are three designs for a book cover.
One is exactly how the customer wants it, one is a compromise and one is my design.
I´d be interrested, how you´d rate them - from 1 to 3...
The book is a novel, it is about the attitude to life of the generation of the 60s and 70s.

#1

#2

#3

Thanks for helping me.

They are hard to read. If older people are going to read the book, the text should be much easier to read. #2 - is my preferred design but the worst for legibility - the text is tiny on the back. #3 is too busy. #1 feels like the compromise but again, difficult to read the text on the back.

Thank you very much for your feedback.
I see it much like you do. I also prefer #2 and I also think the text on the back is bad to read.

Overall I like #2 for it's simplicity. That said, when looking at just the spine (as I would see it on a bookshop shelf) #1 catches my eye.
On a general note, none of them appear to leave room for ISBN barcoding on the rear.
