4K monitor

Recently upgraded to 4K monitors under Windows 11 (i9, 128Mb) with an NVidia RTX 4060.  The speed at which Photoshop operated seems significantly improved.  Am I just imaging things?  It got me to wondering if the software is written for the latest (well near latest) and greatest hardware and has capabilities to adjust down for what is considered a reasonable level of backward compatibility.  Figured some of the gurus herein might have an understanding of how the interactions are actually taking place.  Thanks for any insights.
