Okay, this is an extremely stupid question, but mere stupidty has never stopped me before...

I'm sort of new to this. Sometime ago, I signed up for Adobe cloud and a Adobe photoshop. I got, of course, Adobe photoshop CC.

Okay, but then it recently updated and I seem to have Adobe Photoshop CC and Adobe Photoshop 2020 on my system. What's the difference? Is there any? If not, why are there two distinct icons in m apps folder? Should I be using one or the other?

As I say, probably a stupid question, but I'm mystified.

I also just heard that Adobe is dropping the CC from the name. So what would have been PS CC 2020, is just PS 2020.

I heard that too, Chuck — and the title bar verifies the change.

Hi,

This is most definitely not a stupid question. In fact, it's an inquisitive question because the Photoshop team took the time to rename our moniker and update our icons. To answer your question, Adobe Photoshop 2020 (for Desktop) is the latest and greatest. Anything of the form Adobe Photoshop CC <year> are previous releases from former years like 2019, 2018, 2017, etc.

You should use Adobe Photoshop 2020 to stay up-to-date with features and bug fixes.

You probably have distinct icons in your Applications folder because you have older releases still installed. With the Creative Cloud Desktop app, you can install the current (Adobe Photoshop 2020) and the previous release (Adobe Photoshop CC 2019). So any uninstall of older releases will probably not be supported for reinstall. Which is why it is your discretion to uninstall older versions of Photoshop.

I hope this answers your questions and satisfies your curiousty. Thank for raising this question. And we hope you enjoy our products 🙂

Sincerely,

Andrew

Hi Andrew,

I am curious about your use of “our” since you don’t have a staff or acp badge? Are you on the PS team and need a badge?

Hi Jane,

I am an engineer for the PS team and just joined this community.  So I will be looking for my ACP badge.

Photoshop 2020 is just the latest version of Photoshop CC.
