Action question

At one time, I made an action for Photoshop that would both save my image as a jpeg and as a psd. It was such a time saver!! Over time, I lost it. I can't seem to make one now as it keeps trying to save the same photo that I originally make the action on. Any suggestions on how to do this?

When recording action steps, avoid interacting with the File name field, not only should you refrain from renaming files, but also from altering the File name: field.

@MelissaL – I’m guessing that your action has recorded the filename, rather than just the path, as shown in this screenshot from a previous topic:

As @c.pfaffenbichler has requested a screenshot to clarify if this is the case.

Stephen, what about the save to location?  When I have done this, the action always saves to the folder used when creating the Action.  Is that just the way it is, or can it save to the same location it loads the file from?

@Trevor.Dennis - Actions always record an absolute path based on the computer recording the action. The action step can have the modal control turned on for an interactive save, or the Batch command can be set to use the 'override action "save as" commands' checkbox.

Otherwise, a script is required.

Could you please post screenshots with the pertinent Panels (Toolbar, Layers, Actions, Options Bar, …) visible and the Action fully expanded?

Where did you want to save the files to?
