Question

Actions/Presets no longer loading at start up - KNOWN ISSUE?

Adobe Photoshop Version: 25.0.0 20230906.r.37 b14e317 x64

Windows 10

I last used PS on 05-10-2023. Today I turned it on and all my actions have disappeared (see attached screenshot). I can reload them all (time consuming) but how do I ensure this doesn't happen again? And why did it happen in the first place? The only actions showing now are the default actions.

Can I revert to a previous verison of PS in the hope they will be available? If so, how?

More here, including possible solutions with the preset .psp file (if you still have the old version settings folder):

Thank you - I've just unchecked the auto updates as you suggested 🙂

Can't help you with what you lost, but here's how to avoid it in the future.

First of all, as it sounds like you may have done, save out actions, brushes etc to a safe place, so that they can easily be reloaded as needed.

Then go into the CC desktop app preferences, and uncheck auto updates! I have no idea why it's checked by default, but it is. You'll get notifications when there are app updates, but it won't run automatically.

When you install, uncheck "remove old versions". You might want to keep it around until you know everything works well.

You can also choose to migrate settings and preferences, but this is something I actually wouldn't recommend. This option is there because of popular demand, but it's a bit risky. The new version may have new code, and the old settings may not mean exactly the same thing in the new version. Take ten minutes to set it up fresh.
