After cropping a TIFF, can't SAVE AS JPG

Windows 10 PRO, Photoshop V23.21 (latest).  I have a TIF file, IMAGE MODE RGB, 8 Bits/Channel,  6222 x 4104 pixels, 73.1MB file size.  I can save this TIFF as a JPG, no problem.  But if I first crop it and then try to SAVE AS a JPG, the only choices I get are PSD, PSB, PDF, PNG, TIFF and WEBP, but NO option for JPG.  I have tried this with other TIFF files and same problem.  I"v never had this problem in the past.

Hi @arbor123

Use File > Save a Copy (also available through Save As)

Or

You can revert to the previous behavior in Preferences > File Handling > File Saving Options (available in 22.4.2 and later):

  • Enable Legacy Save As
  • Do not append Copy to filename

In addition: when you crop, is "Delete Cropped Pixels" enabled or not? If you do not delete cropped pixels, then cropping converts the background layer to a pixel layer. JPEG does not support layers, so the JPEG option is not in Save As by default.

Jane,

Thanks for the info and speedy reply.  That solved the problem.  Who knew?
