AI generation not updating display

In 27.12, when using ai generative fill, or remove - the usual 3 variations are created.  However, the cursor flashes between working and ready - and the image will not update when chosing between them - unless you minimise the Properties window which displays the variations.  So, you have to select a variation, then minimise the panel and the main image will change to show the variation, if you try to do this as it used to be - it just wont update.  AI tools are also very much slower than they used to be

Hi all, please update to the latest Ps Beta: Adobe Photoshop Version: 28.0.1 20261014.m.3714 ae936ff  arm64 (beta, PublicBeta), then let us know if you still are having the same issues.

    Thanks,

    Cory - Photoshop Product Manager

Yes the latest beta resolves that issue very well, and the colour and contrast shifts that have been plaguing beta and PS for a while I'm glad to say.  Those shifts still exist in PS (unless enabling HDR at OS level and calibrating the display properly for HDR), so hopefully these beta changes will make it across to PS soon.  Good work to all resolving these issues, they definitely were making things very tough

I'm experiencing the same issues with Photoshop Beta 27.12.0 on Windows 11, persisting across several Beta updates. Regular Photoshop 27.11.0 works perfectly on the same PC.

Before using AI generation, Beta runs relatively smoothly, with responsive layer toggling and canvas updates. However, after ANY AI generation (Firefly or partner models such as Nano Banana), the following problems occur:

    1. Generating UI: The progress interface turns blank grey, and generation is unusually sluggish.

    2. Variation switching: Clicking the < and > arrows doesn't visually update the generated variations until I move the mouse, apparently forcing a canvas redraw.

    3. Layer visibility: Clicking layer eye icons similarly fails to update the canvas until the mouse moves.

    4. Busy cursor flickering: Photoshop's circular wait cursor constantly flickers on/off when hovering over buttons, menus and other UI areas, even when no processing is occurring.

    5. Persistent application-wide slowdown: The problems remain even after closing the document that triggered them. Only restarting Photoshop Beta clears them, until the next AI generation.

    6. Sluggish UI rendering: Some menus and Preferences panels initially appear blank grey or partially rendered, with their text and controls appearing slowly. This can happen even before AI generation.

GPU testing reveals an important distinction:

    • GPU enabled: Variation switching and layer visibility fail to redraw without mouse movement.

    • GPU disabled: Those redraw problems disappear, but the flickering busy cursor and sluggish menu/Preferences rendering persist.

    • Disabling GPU acceleration causes additional performance problems and is not an acceptable workaround.

The issues affect the entire application, not just the generated document, and occur regardless of AI model. Even if the image/document that the issues originate from is closed, the problems will still persist afterward. This suggests a GPU-related redraw problem alongside a separate application-wide busy-state/UI issue triggered by generation.

Adobe, please investigate. These reproducible problems have persisted across multiple Beta releases and make Photoshop Beta extremely frustrating to use.
