Align level in Photoshop

Hi guys!

It's weeks I can't align pictures in photoshop.

I usually take pictures with a tripod to avoid vibrations, but in any case that workflow normally creates some disalligned images. I used to use the Modify > Align levels option. Since weeks ago unfortunately the aligning method doesn't seems to give nice results. I mean, before the process the levels are quite aligned, after the process they loose their positions and increase their differences instead of decreasing it.

The image attached shows a moment just after the automatic aligning process.

I though it was a bug problem connected with Photoshop 2025 but It looks identical in the 2026 version.

Do you have any advices?

Not sure what you mean by "Modify > Align levels"? Do you mean Edit > Auto-Align?

If that's what you mean, then yes, it can happen that it is a few pixels offset. The alignment itself (the geometric transform) is usually perfect, just a few pixels offset in a random direction. I just made it a habit to check at 100%, and if necessary nudge with the arrow keys until they're perfectly on.

Not a big deal, but a small inconvenience.

@Jody Parisi I normally use a ruler to straighten and align layers manually. This gives me direct, pixel-level control and often works perfectly
