"Align Selected Layers Based On Content "no response

I have been using Photoshop to align 300 pictures, but I still have no response after several hours of processing. I don't know what to do.

    The lads have asked you all the right questions, and c.p. has made the point that we need your full workspace to see the information we need to make a decent assesment.  If Photoshop is frozen but you can still use the rest of your system, check the root directory of your primary scratch drive for Photoshop temp files.  I have a feeling they will amount to a lot more than 16Gb.  If you are using Windows, open Task Manager > Performance tab to see if Photoshop is using CPU cycles, or if the drive is your bottleneck. Open Resource Monitor at the bottom of the Task Manager to get more information.

     

    My gut is that your system is short of resources to run that operation.  Try starting again and duplicating all of the layers to a new document so you can radically reduce image size, and run the layer alignment again.  Always keep an eye on scratch files when running operations that complex.  You should also close Photoshop and see if any Photoshop temp files remain trapped on the scratch drive.  This happens when Photoshop crashes and can clog up your drive.  Just delete those files, and any other Photoshop temp files that do not have todays date on them.

      I'm now sure it's not a lack of system resources problem, it's a photoshop problem, and I've now switched to 32G RAM and the problem is still the same.

        Hi,is there any solution to this? I am having exactly the same behavior, also in Lightroom, the Preview gets stuck when trying to align layers...I too think, this might be an Adobe problem, as I tried some free/trial stitching programs on my computer and it was no performance problem to stitch the amount of images together.

          One of the soultions is to force quit application. This is not suitable for unsaved documents because you may need again to open/place 300 images. Restart Photoshop if possible then try with smaller amount of layers because it seems you do not have enough memory for such task/operation.

            I have tried the software to force exit and then reinstall, but can not solve the problem. My computer has 16 gigabytes of RAM, plus 16 gigabytes of virtual memory, which should be enough. Working with a small number of images is fine, but it's not what I want.

            What do you mean by »16 gigabytes of virtual memory« exactly? 

             

            As you have chosen to post an unnecessarily clipped screenshot we cannot see how large the images you are trying to align are … so: What are the images’ pixel dimensions and bit depth? 

             

            »Working with a small number of images is fine, but it's not what I want.«

            So? 

            You may have to »stagger« the alignment by aligning small numbers of images to the same image, ideally they should then match and can be merged into one image. 

             

            But maybe you should start explaining what you are actually doing – what are you trying to align 300 images for?
