Alt + Click on layer thumbnail

So, in the latest version of Photoshop there was this feature added which lets you Alt + Click on a layer thumbnail and the content of that layer is then centered and zoomed to fill your whole document window (also your floating document window is unnecessarily maximised, which is petty annoying). I guess this might be a useful feature for some people.

However, the same behavior is triggered when you Ctrl + Alt + Click a layer thumbnail, which you need to do if you want to create a selection by combining the layer transparencies of different layers (namely if you want to subtract the layer transparency of a layer from an existing selection). This is VERY annoying because every time I want to subtract the layer transparency from a selection, Photoshop now centers and zooms the content of the layer (and maximises the document window).

I couldn't find a solution to this problem in the preferences nor in the keyboard shortcut settings. Please consider this a bug post.

Hello, I suggest to try to update Photoshop to v 21.1 as there is a fix for the unwanted zoom to layer content: https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/kb/fixed-issues.html#photoshop-desktop-fixed-issues

Thanks for the heads up. Just installed the update and the problem is solved.

Actually, another problem with bad performance of the slice tool in very large files has also been fixed. Never bothered to post that because I assumed that nobody cares about slices anymore. I'm really happy with the new update!

I also have encountered this issue today as I recently updated PS. It took me some to figure what on earth was going on. That's pretty dumb that they just added a new shortcut over the top of an existing one.

Is there no workaround? This seriously messes with my productivity 😞

No work arounds yet, but it should be fixed soon - lots of feed back about it, so Adobe moves fast on those issues.

I just wanted to let you know that I added this to my topic with a list of problems that I also encountered since the update.

But now I got flagged for spam. So.. yeah.. Is updating a topic not allowed?

Updating is fine, there are just some really odd words that get marked as spam, like D*O*M.

The new feature interferes with many other PS features. Adobe has been I formed about this. Just waiting to see if they correct it soon. Not really any workarounds at this point.
