Hello, I was working on a project in Photshop and suddenly some layers developed a permanent artifact. They go away If I paint over it but does anybody know what causes this and how to prevent it? Is it a software or hardware issue?

Does turning off »Use Graphics Processor« in the Performance Preferences (Photoshop > Preferences > Performance > Graphic Processor Settings) and restarting Photoshop have any bearing on the issue?
