Auto-align and auto-blend are greyed out

I am trying to blend some focus stacked pictures for the first time... the options are greyed out and after searching I can't see where the problem is. My photos are raw pictures, RGB and not smart objects. I have opened the files directly in PS. Thanks

    @barryt5268174 your layers are smart objects as indicated by the icon in the layers panel, also you need to have 2 or more layers selected, you can select all the layers and then right click and select Rasterize layers
