Auto-Highlight Photoshop

When selecting a menu object (drop down menu, a slider with number in field (such as the crop aspect ratio menu or the feather amount in Select and Mask) or a check box (like the preview check box in Select and Mask), the menu object stays highlighted after clicking it. I have to hit Enter to remove the highlight.

This happens only on Windows 10 and Adobe Photoshop Version: 27.2.0 20251213.r.15 e3408e7

My Mac Pro 2013 running Photoshop 2024 does not have this issue.

On my Mac the operation goes like:

Select Menu item-> Menu item does not remain highlighted-> can switch to next key or function.

Windows, Select Menu Object-> try to switch to another key (such as arrows or space bar),→ previously selected menu object stays highlighted

To explain the video: When I try to use the up and down arrows to nudge after I select the crop ratio, the menu remains highlighted and cycles through the other ratios rather than proceeding to nudge the frame.

Any help or ideas on how to fix this?

Hey, @chromoprinter54. Welcome to the Photoshop Community. Please share the system info from Photoshop Help > System info > Copy & paste into a text document > upload & attach here.

This could be an expected behavior, to some extent. Also, please update Photoshop to the latest version available via the Creative Cloud desktop app.

Here goes, please make sure there are no stale preferences in your Photoshop. Go to the location of the preference folder below and rename it to backup.

Windows 10/11: Users/[user name]/AppData/Roaming/Adobe/Adobe Photoshop [version]/Adobe Photoshop [version] Settings
You can press Press the Windows key > Enter 'Run' > Enter %APPDATA%\Adobe
Rename the Adobe Photoshop folder by adding a .old at the end. (Adobe Photoshop 2026 > Rename > Adobe Photoshop 2026. old), You can restore these preferences later if needed.(https://adobe.ly/4860qM9)
Restart the computer.

These changes will provide a fresh start to Photoshop, much like a new installation.
