Auto-select Layer does not expand groups anymore

What happened to Auto-select tool and Layers Panel?
Many years when I select layer on canvas with Auto-select (ctr+mouse click) it also expanded Layers group on the Layers panel to reveal in which group is selected layer.
For some time it has not been working anymore and is not revealing layer in Layers Panel!

I noticed something similar a while back. Auto-select still finds the layer on the canvas, but it doesn't always reveal or expand the parent group in the Layers panel like it used to. Resetting the tools is definitely worth trying first. If that doesn't help, I'd also check whether it happens in a brand-new document, just to rule out something specific to that file.
