AVIF vs WEBP file size

I just save a copy as .AVIF and WebP.

Using the same high 63% lossy, the .AVIF file is twice the size of WebP file.

What gives?

Is AVIF better than WebP?

AVIF has a clear advantage over WebP here. Generally speaking, AVIF images are 50% smaller than JPEG images, while WebP images are 30% smaller than JPEG. This difference in size can be chalked up to how each file format handles compression.
Correct answer D Fosse

AVIF (2019) is a much newer specification than webp (2010). They just found a better way.

Hi, thanks for reaching out! As D Fosse mentioned, AVIF is a newer standard than WebP. Also, though AVIF has higher compression, it can support higher color depth than WebP, allowing finer details and avoiding artifacts in more complex parts of an image.

Thanks,
Nikunj

But why am I getting 115 KB instead of 70 KB for the same image?
