Beginner tutorials

I am a beginner to photoshop.  I'm trying to do the beginner tutorials.  I find them to be of little help.  I often get lost.  In a tutorial you must tell me what to do AND how to do it.  The tutorial tells me to create a new adjustment layer but then it doesn't tell me how to do that.  Taking the beginner tutorial is quite frustrating. The tutorial doesn't match the PS software behind it.

What am I missing?

You aren't missing anything... everybody learning Photoshop goes through this experience to one degree or another. Photoshop is a very large, robust application with many tools, techniques, and ways to combine them. A seemingly simple work task often requires the use of several tools to accomplish. The good news is that there are many excellent videos on YouTube that explain how to use the various tools and techniques in Photoshop. As an occasional user, I often have to look up things like "creating an adjustment layer" while I'm trying to accomplish a task.

I've also found it productive to invest some time viewing instruction videos organized around a topic, such as Selection, Layers, and Text.

When I started using Photoshop I experienced the same sense of frustration that you expressed. I had to adjust my expectation of how to use Photoshop, and learn to use Photoshop along with the instructional videos on YouTube.

Hope this helps.

Hi @Kent31866686c21l:

Which tutorial are you watching, specifically?

And what do you mean that the tutorial doesn't match the software behind it? What version are you using?
