Question

Brightness/Contrast no longer exists as an adjustment layer. Why? Bug or feature?

Photoshop 27.10.0 on MacOS - there is no Brightness/Contrast layer available. Bug or feature?

Just coming to chime in that this change is awful and brightness/contrast needs to be included in the adjustments panel. It’s the one adjustment I’ve used the most over the last 20+ years and removing it was unnecessary.

Brightness and contrast is still there. Choose the Light adjustment layer and, at the top right of properties click to open the menu and choose Light Version (Legacy xxxx)

It’s there but it’s not easy to adjust. From what I can tell it can only be applied on a single layer and not adjustable if the layer is rasterized. I’ve always had a single adjustment on top of a group of images to be able to quickly edit the value as needed when I work through my layers. You can adjust it if the layer is a smart object but then you can’t make edits (like cloning) if it’s a smart object. So now there has to be workarounds just to make a simple adjustment to the brightness and it’s annoying. There doesn’t seem to be a good reason for Adobe to have taken it out of the adjustment properties when most people probably use Brightness/Contrast more than say Channel Mixer.

Nice to have Brightness/Contrast as a Pre-2026 Legacy option. I was using it for a Deke McClelland hack for a print adjustment layer to get the inkjet print closer to what is seen on screen. Ex: B = 40/C = -40.

This is not the same. There is no Brightness there. And why remove it, when you can still use B/C adjustment (but not as a layer)

Read the link. If you follow the forum by email, then you won’t see it because I added it later, so here it is again: https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/desktop/create-manage-layers/color-adjustment-fill-layers/adjust-image-lighting-with-light.html. You can still create the legacy adjustment layers. About half way on that page.
