Question

Brush Settings affecting all brushes instead of individual brush

Hello!

I recently noticed that when I change a setting on a brush preset it affects all my other brushes. For example, I have a pencil brush with a certain texture and transfer behaviour that has a different texture and behaviour than my pencil shader brush. If i change the texture in the pencil brush, it automatically changes this texture in my shader brush even if both settings have been locked. I then have to manually change these settings back to the the way I want it before using the brush.

I am changing the brush in the preset tool bar, not just changing the brush tip. This never used to be an issue for me but now it impedes my workflow since I have to manually change all the settings every time i switch to a new brush.

If anyone has any answers, please let me know. Thank you.

@crossed44 Where are you at with this right now?   Do you still have the issue, or have you fixed it?

That definitely doesn't sound like the expected behavior. If changes to one brush preset are automatically affecting other presets, it seems like the presets may be linked or the brush settings aren't being saved independently. Since this only started happening recently, I'd also be curious if it's related to a recent update. Hopefully someone has found a fix, because constantly reconfiguring brush settings would really slow down the workflow.

Please post meaningful screenshots including the brush settings panel.

Did you lock some feature/s (see the lock-icons in the panel)?

The Options bar buttons could do that.  If one or more of those is active, then it will override other brush settings.

You could also try resetting the brush tool. The reason I prefer not to do that right away is that you don’t know what was causing the problem.

That sounds really frustrating, especially if it started happening suddenly after previously working as expected. If changing one brush preset is affecting others, it almost sounds like the presets are sharing settings rather than storing them independently. I'd be interested to know whether this happens with newly created brush presets as well or only with existing ones. Hopefully it's something that can be resolved without having to rebuild your entire brush library.
