Question

Brush strokes bend toward guides when Snap is on

Problem: When I draw a brush stroke across a guide, the stroke bends toward the guide and leaves a squiggle. This happens in a file with guides and makes precise line work impossible unless Snap is turned off.

Expected: Brush strokes are not pulled toward guides, or there is a clear indicator that Snap is affecting the stroke.

Setup: Photoshop 27.11.0, Windows 11, XP-Pen Artist Pro 22 (Gen 2), driver 4.0.21.

I don’t know if this is intended or not, but this sounds like expected behavior to me. I expect snapping to affect all cursor movement within the snapping radius.

Press ctrl+H to disable/enable the guides while you paint.

I have been fighting small problems like this in Photoshop for about two years and it is becoming more than infuriating. Please add a clear indicator when Snap is affecting brush strokes, or stop snapping brush strokes by default.

OK, for all I know this might not be how it’s supposed to work. Others will have to chime in on that.

For what it’s worth, I’ve always found it much easier to adapt than to fight. As long as I know how the software behaves, and it’s predictable, I work with it. I don’t have a problem working with this.
