It is such an annoying feature. I use photoshop to open images and this really halts my rythm every time. Please add an option to disable it in photoshop.

Nope doesn't work. I don't need camera RAW for a simple crop 'n scale 60 jpg files. Gets old fast.

I've gotten the latest version of camera raw. It's now fixed. Thanks Adobe for fixing after several months.

I am having a similar issue in that everytime I open my files in PS which are directly from the camera or have been processed in DxO, they open in Camera Raw not directly into PS. I do not want to use Camera Raw for my editing. I have been doing the previous work flow from camera/DxO to PS successfully until the last 2 months or so. I work on a Mac OS with Ventura.

I have updated Camera Raw as suggested and disabled JPEG and TIFF support as suggested.. all with no success.

What kind of file? Raw or RGB? Jpeg, tiff, psd, what?

Thankyou for the reply. They are .dng or .C3 files. I have not had this problem, before and don’t have it with .tiff files

Hi,

I have a similar issue but with AVIF files, I had a plug-in that opened them juste fine, but the new version of Camera Raw opens them without transparency support, I would rather use the plug-in but they always seem to open through Camera Raw, and are not useable.

Downgrade Camera Raw under the CC panel. That may help.

Hi,

I see an option to install older versions of PS, but no such options for camera Raw, it simply says that it is up to date.

Except... that disabling JPEG and TIFF support does nothing. JPEGS still activate camera raw and the last however many versions of PS didn't do that.
For the love of God Adobe, stop breaking things, literally every update screws up something that worked perfectly well for years before.

Then you have corrupt ACR preferences.

From Photoshop or Bridge, go to Edit > Preferences > Camera Raw, and hold ctrl as you click. You will get a confirmation dialog.

As thedigitaldog mentioned, you have to have ACR. you can bypass it, by holding the shift key down, when you open a file.

You are not clear on what the issue is.

ACR opens Raws, that's the only way you can access raw data within Photoshop, using the plug-in ACR.

You don't want, say JPEGs or TIFFs to open in ACR? Check your ACR preferences. By default, it will NOT do so.

It should just be part of Photoshop then. It's a deeply annoying plug-in that is always looking for an update, always updating, and adding to the (unacceptable) amount of background activity Adobe seems to always have. If you have any sway, pleeease tell them to just add the features to Photoshop already.

I completely agree. Please make Camera raw part of Photoshop. We should not have to always have to upgrade Camera raw all the time, especially considering I never use it.
