Can not create guides while transforming

Due to the new feature that accepts transformations just by clicking away from the object, I can no longer drag a guide from the rulers to snap to my object unless said object is very close to the ruler. Is there a way to turn off the new accept transformation change or have it not accept the change when attempting to grab a guide?
