Question

Can't untoggle free transform

For the last month free transform has been on whenever I’m trying to scale an image. Holding shift works for proportional scaling which is what I used to do for free transform so it has somehow switched? I have tried Edit > untoggle Free Transform, but it stays on. If I click maintain aspect ratio between width and height it works but if I click away from the image I just have to toggle it again. Help!

Good to hear that resetting preferences solved it, but I wanted to add that what you originally saw…

I have tried Edit > untoggle Free Transform, but it stays on.

…sounds a lot like the bug being discussed in the thread linked below, where Photoshop menu commands stay selected when they should not be. In that thread I show an example of the Free Transform command not becoming deselected even though it’s no longer active.

So keep an eye on it, because even thought it seems resolved for now, in my experience it could start happening again.
