Cannot Edit my Photo

I left my computer open on an image I was working with many layers. My son came in and did some sort of combination on the keyboard and now there are no options to edit the photo. There's no Tools on the left and no options on the right except brushes. I tried opening a new photo and it shoes the same thing. How can I get this back to the main layer editing?

    Reset your named Workspace from the top-right by clicking on this button. It will bring up a menu with the reset option.
