Question

Cannot erase with pen when select tool is in use

Since about version 26, the behaviour for using a graphics tablet has changed. It used to be that you could still erase using the back of the pen regardless of whatever tool you were using. Since version 26 and continuing to this day if you have the select tool enabled you are unable to erase. Using the back of the pen just draws selection boxes as if you were using the front tip.

Is this a deliberate change – in which case where can I turn it off – or is it a bug?

That’s a bit of a strange one.  I am not sure why you’d expect the Move tool to act as the eraser regardless of which end of the stylus you use.  I know I am coming across as judgmental here, and I apologise for that, but I have never used the other end of a Wacom stylus since the Graphire1 26 years ago.

Do you work with Spring-Loaded Shortcuts enabled?  I understand that not everyone gets on with them.

If you are OK with Spring-loaded Shortcuts, hold down the E key and the stylus will act as the Eraser regardless of what tool is selected.  It will remember the settings (cursor size, hardness etc.) and go back to the currently selected tool when you release the E key.  And you won’t need to put the kettle on with one hand while waiting for the other hand to faff about reversing the stylus.  You’ll probably drop it, and it will bounce under your desk, and if you are having a really bad day, the cat will run off with it.  Spring-Loaded shortcuts can save you a bunch of time.

Respectfully, this doesn’t answer my question.
