Question

Cannot locate file location for custom patterns

Hi All,

When I first used the “Define Pattern” function in photoshop, it asked me where I wanted to save the pattern to.  I have since saved multiple patterns but it only asked for the location that first time.  Now, I am trying to find where they’ve all been saved to as I cannot remember which folder I selected.  I am trying to delete certain patterns.  I did see that I can right click from the pattern panel but it’s bothering me that I cannot find the file path itself.  Can anyone point me in the right direction?  Or am I searching for something that doesn’t exist?

I am on macOS Sequoia 15.5 and photoshop version 27.3.1

I’ve tried searching various folders in my hard drive but cannot find them except that in ~Applications/Adobe Photoshop 2026/Presets/Patterns I found a handful of patterns that look like default patterns.  In that folder, there is a file named “Artists Brushes Canvas.pat”.  Would my custom patterns all be included in that file maybe?

I appreciate anyone’s help.  Thank you!

Usually just using Edit>Define Pattern only puts the pattern into the Patterns panel and doesn’t save it to your drive.

I’ve always had to select the patterns in the Patterns panel and click Export Selected Patterns.

If in Photoshop when you go to Window>Patterns, right click on one of your defined patterns and click

Export Selected Patterns, is there an .pat file there?
