Color Inconsistency Issue

Hi,

I’ve encountered a strange color-related issue in Photoshop (video below) that’s driving me crazy. I’ve spent way too much time trying to fix it, but I can’t figure out what’s going wrong. I’d be really grateful if someone could explain what’s happening or suggest a solution.

Setup:

  • Photoshop: Latest version
  • OS: Windows 10 Pro (version 22H2)

The Issue:
When I copy and paste a hex color code into a shape layer, the layer doesn’t retain the exact color value I’ve entered. Instead, the color shifts slightly. While the difference isn’t very noticeable, it’s frustrating not knowing why this happens.

This issue occurs regardless of how or where I select the color (Hue Cube, Color Picker, Swatch, Shape Fill). However, I’ve noticed that the problem doesn’t occur when I’m working in RGB mode.

I’ve reproduced the problem in multiple ways, as shown in the attached video.

Any insights or fixes would be much appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

It would be much simpler if you just told us those two profiles (or post those screenshots).

And the hex codes. Then we have all we need to see what's going on.

Did you have a chance to watch the video I attached? Towards the end, I showed my color settings.

Hex is just a different notation for standard RGB numbers. What those numbers mean in terms of actual colors, depends on the color space (sRGB, Adobe RGB etc).Same for CMYK.

Before it's possible to say anything meaningful here, we need to know what the embedded CMYK profile is:

We also need to know what you have set up as your working RGB, because this will be used by Photoshop in calculating the numbers going between them.

What is most likely happening here is that you are picking RGB colors that are out of gamut in the CMYK color space.
