Consistent Dust / Artifact Removal Across Multiple Texture Maps in Photoshop (Base Color, Normal, Displacement)

I am working with textile scans generated by a fabric scanning system.
Each scan produces several perfectly aligned texture maps, all with the same resolution and framing:

  • Base Color (BASE) - the real photographic image of the fabric

  • Normal Map (NRM) - tangent-space normal map

  • Displacement Map (DISP) - height/displacement information

  • (sometimes also Roughness, Alpha, etc.)

Occasionally, small dust particles or scanning artifacts appear, and they are present in the exact same physical location across all maps.

My goal is to remove these artifacts while maintaining spatial and physical consistency between the maps.

What I am trying to achieve:

  • Apply a correction (dust removal) at the same pixel position and scale across all maps

  • Keep each map edited independently (not merged or baked together)

  • Avoid destructive workflows that would break the technical validity of normal or displacement maps

What I have tested:

  • Clone Stamp / Healing Brush on empty layers using Sample All Layers or Current & Below

  • Copying correction layers and using clipping masks on each map

  • Smart Objects (which encapsulate the layers and do not allow per-map recalculation)

What I observe:

  • Clone/Healing operations rasterize pixel data based on the source at the moment of execution

  • When correction layers are duplicated and clipped to other maps, Photoshop does not re-evaluate the content based on the underlying layer

  • This results in visually incorrect data for Normal and Displacement maps

 

My question:

Is there any native Photoshop workflow that allows applying the same spatial correction (geometry/position) across multiple aligned texture maps, while recalculating the pixel content per map?

Or is this fundamentally outside the scope of Photoshop’s image-based retouching engine?

If the latter is the case, I would also appreciate confirmation of best practices (or limitations) when dealing with multi-map PBR-style workflows inside Photoshop.
