Content-Aware fill not working as expected in Photoshop CS6 Windows 10 (2019)

I am using PS6 on a Windows 10 PC. Recently, I noticed two (possibly related) issues with content-aware fill.

1 - I cannot activate content-aware fill with the shift-F5 keystroke combination; but i can use edit/fill/content aware with no problem.

2 - if i attempt to select a region of the image (say, with the lasso), the computer selects a range of colors as if i had used the magic wand to select.

I *think* I had reset the tool but the situation persists. I would be grateful for suggestions. Thanks.

This drove me nuts too, until I discovered 'Shift Lock' was turned off on my PC's keyboard.

If you did not get

You have not reset your preferences,  Start CS6 and immediately press and hold Ctrl+Alt+Shift.  If you do not do it on time you will miss the startup window of opportunity and your preferences will not be  reset.

If you reset your preferences and still have the problems. Close Photoshop Press and Hold Shift and while holding it press start CS6 to get the popup

Click Yes see if you still have the problems you have installed some optional Plug-ins

Neither of these changes have made any difference in shift-F5 behavior (or

lack thereof).

Shift-F5 still does not launch the content-aware fill. It did successfully

reset PS to its out-of-the-box condition.

Shift+F5 should  open the fill dialog and the last option you used should be what is shown. It could be content aware or foreground color or any other option

Have you checked on your keyboard shortcut (Edit>Keyboard Shortcut) if the content-aware fill is still on that combination?

Thank you. The keyboard shortcuts remain as from new, edit/fill is still

shift-F5

Do you have Shift+F5 overridden assigned to an Action?  Also is your CS6 up to date On windows 10? CS6  version 13.0 is very unstable your CS6 should be version 13.0.1.3 Perpetual CS6 or Version 13.1.2 Creative Cloud CS6. CS6 reports Windows 10 As windows 8.

I do not see either of your problems on Windows 10 CS6 version 13.1.2 Creative cloud version.  The first time I use Shift+F5 I do need to use the Pull-down to select Content aware Fill.  I have no problem selecting an area with the lasso tool. The second time I use Shift+F5 the fill Dialog open with content aware fill selected all I need do is press enter or click OK.

Hi Bruce,

That shouldn't be happening, let's make it right.

As the tool is not working as expected and you've already tried resetting it.

Could you try resetting the preferences of Photoshop and let us know if it helps? Preferences in Photoshop

Note: Make sure that you back up all your custom presets, brushes and actions before restoring Photoshop's preferences. Migrate presets, actions, and settings

Regards,
Sahil

thank you...

I reset the preferences and restarted with ctrl-alt-shift depressed, got

the same strange results as before.
