copy/paste

Have read the discussion for  no copy/paste and have tried the resetting of preferences and purge. Restarted PSD, still not working. No updates on any programs have been done or have installed any other programs. Have been using CS2 for years with no problems, even tried installing CS3 same issue. Copy/paste does work in other paint programs and notepad just not Photoshop.Any help would be greatly appreciated.

To be absolutely sure that it is not something simple rather than an issue with Photoshop, can you describe how you go about copying and pasting between documents?

Do you select the layer you want to copy so that the marching ants surround it?

Or do you drag from the layers panel to the other documents tab, and then onto the other document as it appears?

Have you tried other means to check if the object is copied to the clipboard?  If you were to use Ctrl N for instance, it would normally create a new document the size of the object in the clipboard. You would then paste with Ctrl V.

Are you using copy from the Edit menu, or using the shortcut? If you use the Edit menu then you can see if anything is in the clipboard because Paste would otherwise be greyed out.

As Chana has said, we need much more information before we can offer meaningful help.

We know you have tried CS2 and CS3, but we also need to know what operating system you are using?

The fact that the same problem persists across two versions of Photoshop, has me wondering if the issue might be with your workflow.

I select what I want to copy, like I always have in the past and open the file I wish to paste to which is a psd file. Paste it where I want it and I'm done. I'm using windows 7 home edition and CS2. I've done it this way for years with no problems, now all of a sudden it doesn't work. I'm painting planes for Microsoft Flight simulator, the Quality Wings 787-800. The paintkit files are all psd.

Make sure you target the correct layer or background and first: Select: All and than Copy. Go to the target and paste.

Let me know if it is working!

I'm using CS2, I'm trying to copy from one PS file to another. But I never had a problem coping/pasting from another type of file to PS.
