Subject: Photoshop Cannot Open Canon EOS R5 Mark II CR3 RAW Files – Camera Raw File-Format Module Error

Hello Adobe Support Team,

I am experiencing an issue when trying to open RAW image files (CR3) from a Canon EOS R5 Mark II camera in Photoshop.

When I attempt to open a CR3 file, Photoshop displays the following error message:

“Could not open ‘887A0503.CR3’ because the file-format module cannot parse the file.”

The issue occurs in both the regular Photoshop release and the Photoshop Beta version, even though both Photoshop and Camera Raw are fully updated.

System and Software Information

  • Camera: Canon EOS R5 Mark II
  • File format: CR3 (Canon RAW)
  • Photoshop: v27.9.1
  • Photoshop Beta: v27.11
  • Adobe Camera Raw: v18.5
  • Computer: MacBook Pro (2021)
  • Operating System: macOS 26.6.2 (25G83)

Problem Description

The CR3 files produced by the Canon EOS R5 Mark II cannot be opened or parsed by Camera Raw in Photoshop. The same issue occurs in both the standard version of Photoshop and the Beta version.

I have confirmed that Photoshop and Camera Raw are updated to the latest available versions, but the problem still persists.

Could you please confirm whether Canon EOS R5 Mark II CR3 files are currently supported by Camera Raw v18.5, and if so, investigate why these files cannot be parsed?

If support for this camera's RAW format has not yet been implemented, please let me know when support for the Canon EOS R5 Mark II is expected to be available.

I would appreciate your assistance in resolving this issue, as being unable to open the camera's RAW files directly in Photoshop significantly affects my workflow.

Thank you.

Best regards,

Hey, @Media Department OMSB. Welcome to the Photoshop Community. I'll help you figure this out. Please share the system info from Photoshop Help > System info > Copy & paste into a text document > upload & attach here.

The camera has been compatible for some time and should work with the current versions of Camera Raw and Photoshop.

Does this error appear for a specific set of files? Do previously functional images not work now either? Has this started with a recent update? Could you share a few RAW sample images by uploading them to any cloud storage service & creating a link?

For now, press and hold the CMD + OPT key in Photoshop. Then, go to Photoshop in the main menu > Preferences > Camera Raw Preferences, and select 'Yes' when prompted to reset Camera Raw preferences.

    Thanks!
