I have the most recent updated version of Adobe Photoshop as of January 29th 2026 ( Version 27.3.0 release)  I created a file and save a copy as Photoshop EPS.  I’ve sent it to a printing company to print and they can't open it.  So I tried to open it right after I saved it in photo shop and I get the error

Could not open “WinnerBackdrop copy.EPS” because Photoshop was unable to parse the PostScript.

Something is wrong when I save a file in photo shop and it can’t open it back up?  Please help!

Hi @tacri1, well, EPS is not a native Photoshop format—I understand the frustration when you feel like you should be able to “save as” an EPS. We don’t really use EPS too much anymore, as it is a legacy vector file (Photoshop is a raster-first platform), and SVG has replaced it in some worlds. Photoshop has to translate your document into PostScript, and something in that translation is breaking. Did you flatten the file before saving as EPS? Do you have transparency in your file? For printers, PDF/X is the industry standard. I’m sure your printer would prefer a PDF. Can you go back to open your original file in Photoshop and save it as a PDF?

File → Save a Copy → Photoshop PDF

    • Preset: PDF/X-1a:2001 (safest)
or PDF/X-4 (if they support transparency)

    • Convert to destination: Yes

    • Flatten transparency: Yes (for X-1a)

    • Embed ICC profile

If you don’t have the art in another file format, can you open the EPS file in Illustrator and then try SVG? If you don’t have Illustrator, upload the EPS file here and I’ll see if I can open it for you.

It seemed to work once I flattened the image before doing the save as EPS.  Thanks

Terrific, @tacri1, I’m so glad it worked by flattening, and thanks for coming back to let us know!
