Question

Sorry, but what is that RAW converter you are talking about?

Gotcha, kinda sounds like the issue couple of my collegues had before where Camera Raw window somehow got moved "outside" visible screen(s) area, resetting camera raw preferences was fixing the issue

Hi @wolfgang_5972,

Thank you for sharing the details, and thanks, Ged and AxelMatt, for the great suggestions so far.

Since the crash happened, this could point to an issue with the ACR component or GPU drivers after the update. Here are a few steps you can try:

  • Update your GPU drivers. If you have an NVIDIA card, install the latest Studio driver (not Game Ready).

  • If Photoshop opens (even without opening a file), go to Edit > Preferences > Performance, uncheck Use Graphics Processor, and restart Photoshop.

  • Please also submit a crash report after the failure. This gives the product team detailed logs for investigation:

Also, please share screenshots of errors as well and a copy of your System Info (from Photoshop: Help > System Info). Please confirm whether this happens only with CR2 files or other formats.

Best,

Anshul Saini

Hello Anshul Saini, The error only occurs with CR2 files. JPG, TIF, and PSD files open without problems. The GPU driver has been updated, the graphics card has been updated to the latest version, and the graphics processor has been disabled. When it crashes, there is no error report. Photoshop simply freezes and must be closed via Task Manager.

All best Wolfgang

What happened if you enabled the GPU support?

@wolfgang_5972 try resetting the ACR preferences

Unfortunately, this is not possible because when I click on "Edit" Photoshop (including the converter) is started and this causes Photoshop to crash.

Try to reset the preferences of Photoshop using the steps described here:

https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/using/preferences.html#reset-preferences

It's recommended to backup your settings before resetting the preferences.

See here:  https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/using/preferences.html#backup-photoshop-preferences

Do you get an error message?

Does Photoshop only crash when you open RAW files?

Is your system up-to-date? Do you have installed all recent updates and patches for the operating system and the device drivers, especially the graphic driver. If you have a NVidia graphic card installed, make sure that you are using the recent Studio version of the driver, not the Game Ready version.

Please provide a copy of your 'System Info' if possible. This can be get from the Photoshop menu item Help > System Info. There's a copy button in the System Info dialog. Press this button and paste the info into your next forum post.

in the future, to find the best place to post your message, use the list here, https://community.adobe.com/

p.s. i don't think the adobe website, and forums in particular, are easy to navigate, so don't spend a lot of time searching that forum list. do your best and we'll move the post (like this one has already been moved) if it helps you get responses.
